NATEL Rolls Out Enterprise-Wide NBS Training

IN Management Team, NATEL Business System, Press Releases, Reliability On 25-03-2014

CHATSWORTH, CA March 24, 2014 As part of a drive to empower employees, NATEL EMS is training employees in the NATEL Business System (NBS). Training is taking place across all facilities for both manufacturing and office areas.

“NBS training will allow us to truly scale NATEL,” says President/CEO Sudesh Arora. NBS is a set of unique philosophies that borrow heavily from lean manufacturing and problem solving principles. “We have been doing lean since before we knew that word, and professionals like Will and Victor who have taught the Toyota Way are highly able to articulate the NBS philosophy to plants and sites that we have recently acquired.”

NATEL’s Vice President of Continuous Improvement, Victor Yamauchi, is leading the training in small groups of 12 to 16 employees. “Instead of conducting our training from the top down, we empower all employees to understand the business impact and benefits of making improvements. We already have a culture of being resource-efficient and a lot of that was top-down. Now we’re building on a listening and problem solving culture to eliminate waste from the bottom-up,” Yamauchi said.

One of the key principles of NBS is Respect for Others, and demonstrating this has encouraged team members to verbalize and take action to do things better. “Then teams have already taken the initiative to eliminate waste, improve quality, reduce costs and reduce lead-time,” said Will Bolinger, Vice President of Operational Excellence and Quality Assurance. “NBS gets instant results.”
