NATEL’s management team brings incredibly diverse backgrounds and experiences to the table.
Jim joined NATEL in October of 1982, and was Vice President of Manufacturing Services from December 1995 until early 2012, when he was named COO. Prior to 1995, Jim held a variety of process engineering and operations posts at NATEL. Jim has been instrumental in the development of the “Super Assembly Line” concept at NATEL and oversaw the development of our entire microelectronics production facility.
Jim co-developed one of the first automatic hybrid wire bond machines and has published many papers in the microelectronics field. Jim is a recognized expert in the field of microelectronic assembly. He has been in microelectronic manufacturing for more than 30 years and is a charter 30-year member of the International Microelectronics and Packaging Society (IMAPS), formerly known as ISHM.
Jim has held a variety of engineering and manufacturing management posts with companies including McDonnell Douglas Astronautics Co, General Automation, Gaiser Tool Co, and Laserdyne Corporation.
In his tenure at NATEL, Jim has helped the company go from a conventional electronics assemblies company to one of the giants in the microelectronic assembly business. Jim’s sales approach is based on a sound process and manufacturing background.
Jay Klug, Vice President – Contracts / Customer Relations / Security Director
Jay serves as Contracts Officer and Program Manager for various customer and government contracts. In this capacity, Jay is responsible for all phases of the Program including quotations, SF1411 pricing data, participating in DCAA pricing audits and managing and planning the individual program, including quotations, contract reviews, engineering, material procurement, and manufacturing, and customer interface and reporting requirements.
Jay has intimate knowledge of MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-PRF-19500, MIL-STD-883 and ISO 9000 for both Class H (military) and Class K (Space). He has been involved in and coordinated several successful DSCC re-certification audits at NATEL.
In 2000, during the Raytheon hybrid transition (Quincy, MA and Tucson, AZ to Chatsworth, CA), Jay was responsible for the transfer of equipment and knowledge for all test and hybrid screening operations. His responsibilities included facilities planning and implementation of the transitioned hybrid products to NATEL’s headquarters facility. As part of this transition, he was responsible for the oversight of major facility upgrades at the Chatsworth facility.
Prior to the acquisition of the Raytheon hybrid business by NATEL, Jay was Operations Manager for high-reliability Space and Military Products at the NATEL Simi Valley facility. In this position he was responsible for all operations at this facility.
John Lowrey, Chief Accounting Officer
John has more than thirty years of progressive corporate finance and accounting experience, with over twenty years in the electronics manufacturing industry, including his years with NATEL (since 1995). His background includes financial reporting and budgeting, cost accounting, IS administration, cash management, banking relations, tax planning, property and group insurance administration, as well as project management. He also has comprehensive experience in international operations.
John’s experience includes leading the evaluation and negotiation of an acquisition and subsequent merger of operations; negotiations of lines of credit and equipment leases; installing a fully-integrated finance, manufacturing and distribution software system (including the conversion of three different software packages); and implementing an MRP system in less than four months, subsequently reducing inventory.
John has a Bachelor of Science degree from Louisiana Tech University.
Having worked closely with NATEL in shaping and growing their Executive Leadership Team since 2009, Jonathan joined the company in July 2012. As Vice President of Corporate Development, he is responsible for spearheading NATEL’s goal of growing to a $1B enterprise in the next decade.
Jonathan Davis’ career includes an impressive track record of launching, growing, innovating and ultimately selling companies in a variety of industries, including professional services, insurance and BPO.
The founder or co-founder of 5 different companies, his first venture was as a junior in college. When he began researching prospective career opportunities and found that there weren’t any viable resources for inquisitive young people about to enter the workforce, he solicited and won a grant from the United States Department of Labor to build CareerZone. Today this internet-based discovery tool is being used by millions of high school and college students around the world.
In 2011, two of the companies that Jonathan was instrumental in launching, HireBetter and Medicus Insurance Company, were sold – the latter to NORCAL Mutual. In 2012, he successfully sold his most recent start-up, UmpHub.com.
A graduate of the University at Albany (NY), he has also completed the Entrepreneurial Master’s Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 2007 he was part of a small team of business leaders that launched the Accelerator Program, a mentorship initiative for early-stage companies through the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO).
Kunal Sharma, Chief Operating Officer
Kunal has over 12 years of manufacturing and operations leadership experience in the automotive, semi-conductor, aerospace, and defense industries. He has a B.S. from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in Industrial Technology.
His career started as a Manufacturing Engineer at Toyota (NUMMI) and Kavlico. During this time, he was certified as a Six Sigma Black Belt and a Shainin Apprentice. As a Production Manager and Manufacturing Manager at companies such as Kavlico, Danaher, and Rexnord, Kunal used his lean manufacturing knowledge to successfully lead multiple manufacturing (on the factory floor) and transactional (in office areas) Kaizen events resulting in improvements in OTD, yields, and reduction of inventory.
Currently, Kunal’s focus is on applying lean methodologies and eliminating waste throughout NATEL’s Value Stream. Outside of work, Kunal enjoys spending time with his wife and his nine year old twins, hiking, reading, and tennis.
Laura Siegal, Chief Financial Officer
Laura is responsible for all aspects of the Company’s financial strategies, operations and processes. She has over twenty years of experience in the defense and technology industries with broad experience in corporate financial planning and analysis, mergers and acquisitions, accounting, treasury and tax.
Laura joined NATEL in July 2013 from Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc., where she served in a number of senior executive positions, including Vice President and Corporate Controller and Vice President of Finance and Treasurer. She joined Kratos Defense & Security Solutions in 2000. Prior to Kratos, she served in various positions at MEC Analytical Systems and GEC-Marconi. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of California, San Diego.
Magdy Henry, Vice President – Supply Chain
Magdy joined NATEL in October 2010 with more than 20 years experience in supply chain management. He has worked in a variety of industries including aerospace, automotive and pharmaceuticals. His most recent positions were Supply Chain Manager at Tyco electronics and Materials Manager at Harman Becker Automotive. He gained an in-depth experience in ERP implementations.
Magdy holds three distinguished certifications in the area of Supply Chain Management – Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) and Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) from The Association for Operations Management (APICS); and Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) from the Institute of Supply Management (ISM). He holds a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Ain- Shams University in Cairo, Egypt.
Mike Goryl, Vice President – Human Resources
Prior to joining EPIC in February 2005, Mike was employed by Siemens USA in various positions including Human Resources Manager, Manager of Employee and Community Relations and Vice President of Human Resources for Siemens Electro Mechanical Components, Inc. Mike began his career with Sperry Corporation in Detroit, Michigan, where he served in Human Resources management positions. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, with a major in Labor Relations.
Dr. Prakash Bhartia graduated with a B.Tech (Hons) from the IIT Bombay and obtained his MSc and PhD degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Manitoba (Canada). He served as an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of Engineering at the University of Regina, Saskatchewan. Over a 25 year career in the Canadian Department of Defense, he held four Director level positions and over the past ten years, served as Director General of the Defense R&D Laboratories in Halifax and Ottawa.
Dr. Bhartia has published extensively, with over 200 publications, 9 books and 5 patents to his credit. He was appointed to the Order of Canada in October 2002 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, the IEEE, the Engineering Institute of Canada, The Canadian Academy of Engineers and the Institute of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineers. He was awarded the IEEE McNaughton Gold Medal for his outstanding contributions to Engineering. He has also served on many boards and senior level committees in Canada and internationally.
Sudesh, President and Chief Executive Officer, obtained his Bachelor’s degree with Honors in Electrical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay – as one of a select 5% awarded a Merit Scholarship. He holds a Master’s Degree (MSEE) and is a member of MENSA.
After obtaining his MSEE from Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh, Sudesh worked for Gulf Research and Development Company, where he was granted design patents and went on to develop a sophisticated sulfur analyzer which won the company the coveted IR-100 Award from Industrial Research magazine as one of the 100 most significant developments of the year. This was Gulf’s first IR-100 award in more than 20 years.
Sudesh founded NATEL Engineering Company, Inc. in 1975. Through his expertise, the company became a leader in design, development and manufacturing of complex, high-end electronic, microelectronic and synchro conversion products. He led NATEL through several synergistic acquisitions that moved the company into new products and packaging technologies. His leadership led to NATEL in being awarded the Raytheon Microelectronics Outsource contracts as well as the US Small Business Administration’s Regional Subcontractor of the Year Award for 2003.
In 2007, Sudesh spearheaded the acquisition of Raytheon divested equipment and related assets associated with the manufacturing of certain microwave integrated circuits (MICs) from the Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) unit of Raytheon Company (located in El Segundo, California). The MICs are used in SAS Tactical Radar and Electronic Warfare products. Concurrent with the acquisition, NATEL and Raytheon entered into a long term exclusive supplier agreement for the MICs as well as a preferred supplier agreement for related MICs. The agreement is a positive development for both parties, with SAS divesting a non-core product and NATEL strengthening its position as a RF/Microwave manufacturer.
Many innovative capabilities have been added to NATEL’s product line during Sudesh’s tenure, and comprehensive management controls have been implemented. The success of these changes has been illustrated by the company’s continuous, profitable growth and recognition as a formidable, world-class microelectronics manufacturing company.
Victor Yamauchi, Vice President – Quality and Continuous Improvement
Victor joined NATEL in November 2013 as Vice President of Continuous Improvement at NATEL Engineering, with a focus on lean implementation and training to meet business needs.
Prior to joining NATEL, he spent nine years at Amgen in the biotech industry working with various functions such as bulk/fill finish manufacturing (Clinical and Commercial), quality (lab operations), business units (office environment), and supply chain/warehouse operations. As Director of Supplier Quality at Amgen, Victor established the Supplier Relationship Excellence initiative to improve relationships with suppliers by conducting process improvements together.
In addition, Victor spent 14 years at Toyota Motor Sales, USA, learning, developing, and implementing the Toyota Production System (TPS). He gained this experience by working in all aspects of Toyota’s supply chain from Toyota’s suppliers, warehouses, manufacturing plants and dealerships. Victor has extensive experience in developing suppliers to meet Toyota’s stringent standards and transforming their current operations into a lean one.
His depth of knowledge is in strategic planning, supply chain design, procurement planning, manufacturing, and quality systems.
Victor attended California State University, Northridge, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering.
Will Bolinger, Vice President – Operational Excellence and New Product Introduction
Will is a manufacturing operations and quality leader with over twenty five years of progressive “hands-on” leadership experience in high technology electronics with automotive and DoD firms. He has a proven record of improving manufacturing processes and turning them into world-class lean performers. He has firsthand experience with start up operations and business development, from product conception, engineering, testing and supplier selection to high volume production and distribution. He is a renowned expert in lean & six sigma process development/improvement, product re-engineering, supplier development, and process and quality improvement. He is a leader who possesses strong analytical problem solving, budget management, interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership talent as an improvement catalyst.
Will has detailed knowledge of QS-9000; ISO-9000; AS-9100 and MIL-PRF-38534 including Class H (military) and Class K (Space) programs. He has been involved in and coordinated multiple successful ISO/QS/AS certifications, DSCC re-certification audits at NATEL and with DoD prime contractors, major automotive manufacturers and tier one suppliers.
Prior to joining NATEL, Will was a Director of Quality at L-3 Communications, Director of Manufacturing Engineering at Harman International, and a National Lean Quality Leader at Toyota. His formal education includes a Master of Science in Electronics Systems Engineering (Avionics) from the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey, CA; a Master of Business Administration in Operations Research from Chapman University, Orange. CA; and a Bachelorof Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO.
